What is this thing called “Life”? Acceptance of Death, by Alan Watts

June 19, 2015 By David Roberts Leave a Comment

"Life is found when the end of effort is found (not by means -of- effort)."

The other day, I watched the following 4 minute video. It struck a chord in me because it reflects my current reality of Life, Death everything in between, before and after. Your comments are welcome but I'm not looking for validation or "high fives", or to rally the troupes in an effort to get everyone (anyone) to agree with me. My reason for the few words I'll share, along with this video, is a deep desire for what is in me, to live longer and louder than my Earth suit.

If you view the below video, I hope you'll read the following few words and allow them to really challenge you: "To behold God, you become like Him. If you believe God to be the place where your heart is satisfied, where you're able to 'fly', where He's all you need; then, you will become those things to your world." It is possible that you are having difficulty understanding how all this could be. If you're struggling with this mindset, it may be that you've fixed your affections on "this world" and your identity is anchored in Earth.

All my love,
David

THE FOLLOWING IS A TRANSCRIPT OF THE ABOVE VIDEO:
Now there really isn’t anything radically wrong with being sick or with dying. Who said you’re supposed to survive?  Who gave you the idea that it’s a gas to go on and on and on?
And we can’t say that it’s a good thing for everything to go on living. In very simple demonstration that if we enable everybody to go on living, we overcrowd ourselves and we’re like an unpruned tree.
And, so therefore, one person who dies in a way is honorable because he’s making room for others…  Although each one of us, individually, will naturally appreciate it when anybody saves our life, if we apply that case all around we can see that it’s not workable.
We can also look further into and see that if our death could be indefinitely postponed, we would not actually go on postponing it indefinitely because after a certain point we would realize that isn’t the way in which we wanted to survive.
Why else would we have children? Because children arrange for us to survive in another way by, as it were, passing on a torch so that you don’t have to carry it all the time. There comes a point where you can give it up and say now you work.
It’s a far more amusing arrangement for nature to continue the process of life through different individuals then it is always with the same individual, because as each new individual approaches life is renewed. And one remembers how fascinating the most ordinary everyday things are to a child, because they see them all as marvelous – because they see them all in a way that is not related to survival and profit.
When we get to thinking of everything in terms of survival and profit value, as we do, then the shapes of scratches on the floor cease to have magic. And most things, in fact, cease to have magic.
So therefore, in the course of nature, once we have ceased to see magic in the world anymore, were no longer fulfilling nature’s game being aware of itself.
There’s no point in it any longer. And so we die. And, so something else comes to birth, which gets an entirely new view.
It is not, therefore, natural for us to wish to prolong life indefinitely. But we live in a culture where it has been rubbed into us in every conceivable way that to die is a terrible thing. And that is a tremendous disease from which our culture, in particular, suffers.

Roundtable Discussion on Greater Works than Jesus Part 2

August 28, 2014 By David Roberts

No sooner than I'd finished Part 1, we thought we should go ahead and include a followup. We have a part 3 in our heart but it may or may not make it to the web. Just to give you the point, just imagine what a city would look like if several people took this seriously? I see an army of God's people rising out of the Earth. I see this army as an army on horseback, a cavalry, if you will. He's leading the charge now!

Roundtable Discussion on Greater Works than Jesus Part 1

August 28, 2014 By David Roberts

Recently, I was thinking about a verse found in the Bible.  Jesus, speaking to the disciples tells them that they would do greater works than Him (John 14:12).  I think this would make a great discussion, should anyone want to post their thought.  I'll start the ball off by sharing a short video of my thought, including a followup video.

Till Christ be Formed in You

August 4, 2014 By David Roberts

Several months ago, I made this short video to put here.  I never posted it, and for whatever reason, this morning I woke up thinking I should post it.  I hope someone will find some freedom in it.  If you have a few minutes, I'd love for you to take a look at it and give me your thoughts.

What is Love? Part 3

September 7, 2012 By David Roberts Leave a Comment

Many times it's difficult being ourselves. Often, we bow to the pressures whatisloveof performing on the stage of life. What's expected can easily become our most important thing. Transparency and willingness to be open are key to breaking free. Our homes and families are much healthier when we are fully ourselves, even though it can seem difficult, or even impossible.

A near favorite song came to mind as I read a friend's blog this morning and I would like to share it with you. The title is 'Welcome to my World', by Jim Reeves. When I hear this song, it's as if God were personally welcoming me into His World, His Reality, His Kingdom. Even though I'm living amidst the pain of the world I'm drawn to the voice that accepts me just as I am.

What’s inside an Onion?

June 6, 2011 By David Roberts 1 Comment

>As we walk in uprightness and honesty, we find ourselves (God) peeling back the layers of our lives like an onion. With travailing pain, more is peeled away, and yet the core becomes approachable and more simplistic. We embrace Truth. If an onion is peeled back far enough, it disappears and there is No-Thing. Take No Thought (No-Thing) about what you should wear or take no thought about tomorrow for it will take care of itself.

Lonely, I know it very, very well…

March 7, 2011 By David Roberts Leave a Comment

>Lonely, I know it very, very well...

Well, it's been about 9 months since I've written much, and it's been by design.  I'll share more about the timing at another time.  At the end of the summer of 2009 (August), we purchased another video camera, having the desire to blog through means of video.

Well, here is my first 'Vlog' (video blog).  It's very important to my relationship with God, that I be as honest, open and willing as possible, with every aspect of my life.  My prayer for you is that you find some value as I journal my relationship with God, but I must confess, everything I do is for myself and my relationship with God...  My full intentions are to continue being real, honest and naked (of course, since it's a video, I promise to keep my clothes on, haha).  If there is any light in me, I am fully persuaded that the light does its own evangelizing.  Please enjoy and feel free to dialogue, make comments, or ask questions.  My intention is not to lord over you, telling you how you should live, but rather, I am reporting where I am.

>Are you walking by faith, or by sight?

>Watched this video a little while ago and I feel so embarrassed.  It seems as though I have been trapped within my own fears again.  It also seems as though God wants to love me…. I say 'YES'.  Will you?

As you watch, get to know God more.  Resist trying to get motivated to go do something.  Recognize just how big our God is.  If you are anything like me, sometimes you also have an identity crisis.  Allow His love to embrace you, and comfort you.

>To Be, or Not To Be: That is the Question… To Be What?!?!?!

September 18, 2009 By David Roberts Leave a Comment

>

William Shakespeare asked the right question. The question is one we each have to answer every day of our lives. You may recognize the famous quote from Hamlet, “To be, or not to be: that is the question”. The other morning I had a beautiful reminder of God's love for me. It's nothing new for me that I have struggled accepting love, but it was so welcome to be in His presence. While spending time with the Lord the other morning, I decided I didn't want to be a husband any longer. Instead, I decided to be me. Now, I am a much better husband. At the same time, I decided I didn't want to be anything else either, I just want to be.... be me.

It may sound like splitting hairs to some, but there are many who struggle with taking current events and relationships on as part of their identity. I know because I am one of them. It's taken many trips to and through the cross, failing time after time to teach me that God wants me free in this life, not burdened by relationships and current events.

There is no better you than you and there is no better me than me. God made us unique and loves each of us individually, just like we are. God calls this type of acceptance agape love and it is God's desire for you to accept it.

I'm not sure about you but once again, I am finished wearing masks, taking on roles, allowing relationships and current events to be part of my identity. My identity has nothing to do with what I do. We'll be at much more peace, when we are just being ourselves, trusting God, allowing Him to shape us as He sees fit.

To be or not to be? It really is a very good question but now that I know who I am, I just want to be.

>Moving On…

August 23, 2009 By David Roberts Leave a Comment

>

While listening to this song about moving on from a failed relationship, think about how the world system has let you down. Think about how all the efforts you have made to make a name for yourself have come up still needing more effort. There is a way to let go of the past and to move on to 'what is next' in your life. Say good-bye to the past and hello to something even greater. God really does love you and He has a plan and purpose for you. Try not to think about His plan and purpose in terms of normal definitions. Just let your mind go and trust Him. Trust Him while you're listening to this song. Trust Him later on today. Trust Him next week when things are going good or bad. He'll take it from there.

I Am,
David
